Azuma Tea Garden Organic Okumidori Cultivar, Ceremonial Grade Matcha

30g

This single cultivar Okumidori matcha has a bright vivid green colour and beautifully balanced flavour.

ORGANIC CERTIFICATION: While all of Azuma-san's products are cultivated without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, not all of her fields have been certified as organic under Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS). Some fields are simply in the multi-year process, and some may not qualify due to their proximity to non-organic tea fields. This particular matcha is made specifically from a certified organic tea field

This matcha comes from single-origin Kyoto tea with no artificial preservatives or chemical additives.

About The Growers: The Azuma Tea Garden is a family-operated, fourth-generation farm specializing in Tencha tea leaf cultivation and processing. Founded in the late 19th century the family manages tea fields in the mountains of Wazuka, Kyoto, Japan. While not fully certified organic yet, they are in the process of converting to organic cultivation.

"Wazuka-cho in Kyoto is known as the main production region of Uji tea. Surrounded by mountains, river, clean air and rich soil, Wazuka is a region suited for growing tea. Our tea fields are located in the eastern part of Wazuka-cho, where neither trains nor major road runs. The scenery of endless tea fields is designated as Kyoto's "cultural landscape"

Good bang for your buck

This matcha is one of the more affordable options available. Many reviews confirm it’s excellent for lattes. It has a fresh aftertaste, making it pleasant to drink as usucha. However, I would avoid using it for koicha due to its strong astringency. I'm aware of this being to other people’s tastes though, so give it a try.

Balanced

Well balanced sweet and refreshing taste with a bit more bitterness that I would expect. This would work well with milk based drinks too, I imagine. Colour is beautiful.

Matcha bundle

Just received my order containing a lovely chawan and an abundance of matcha making essentials. Really looking forward to gifting to my partner for Christmas.

Strong flavour that works well for a latte

A complex tasting matcha with subtle bitter notes. I found out of the few I have that it worked well on its own for a more stronger tasting usucha or as a short matcha latte (50ml water, 70ml milk of choice).
Great colour and froths well.
