Yusando Tea Garden

Yusando makes natural tea based on the philosophy of Shumei Natural Agriculture, without the use of any pesticides or fertilisers, and with hopes for world peace and health in mind.

About Yusando Artisan Tea House

Surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Nara and Kyoto, Yusando is based in a traditional Japanese house that is over 100 years old.

All Yusando teas are made with a deep respect for nature and with the goal of creating teas that are good for both the body and mind.

Their teas are cultivated without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilisers.

About the farmer:

Farmer Ryotaro Isozaki studied Eastern philosophy at university. His first encounter with natural farming occurred at the age of 24 when he spent a year helping a natural farmer from his home town, who taught him rice cultivation.

“Working in the rice fields, weeding, and harvesting rice, I thought to myself, "What a healthy lifestyle! It would be amazing to live like this." Subsequently, I traveled around the world, experiencing the beauty of agricultural life and the freedom it offered, which made me appreciate the wonders of life.”

Later he underwent a six-month training period at a friend's tea farm and in 2014, he embarked on independent farming. After a number of years of hard work, learning from a number of experts including Mr. Doi from the Shumei Natural Agriculture Network Ryotaro-san acquired a large tea field in Nara, which provided his family with the opportunity to become independent farmers in 2016.

They named the company Yusando after their late father's nickname, "Yusan," and incorporated his posthumous Buddhist name, "Horyo," into the logo.

We visited Ryotaro-san at the Yusando tea house in the autumn of 2024.

We are pleased to bring these delicious natural teas that are made with such love and care for nature to our customers.
