Ash Glaze Shigaraki-yaki Tea Bowl by Hechimon

These Ido-gata, wellshaped, tea bowls have a subtle ribbed shape to their outer walls. The nature of the ash glaze means each piece is quite unique with varying colours from beige, blue greys and creams.

This style was originally inspired by Korean rice bowls in the 16th Century. As Japanese taste changed, moving away from more ostentatious designs to the more natural 'wabi-sabi' aesthetic, this style of ceramic became more desirable and sought after.

It was designated as a traditional craft by the national government in 1976.

About Hechimon: Hechimon is the one of a kind collection by Marui Seito Co. Marui Seto is a third generation Shigaraki yaki producer based in Shiga Prefecture.

Hechimon is a Shigaraki craftsman's word meaning "windswept things" or "one of a kind".

"The vessels have a variety of expressions, just like the various shapes created by nature and the individual personalities of each of us. These vessels are made by skilled craftsmen who know the importance of "heterogeneity" and are filled with playfulness and sincerity."
