Grey Tokoname-ware flat Toki kyusu from Jinsui Kiln

This unglazed flat Kyusu from Jinsui Kiln is made from grey Tokoname clay. Tea steeped in unglazed Tokoname teapots is said to have a mellower taste.

The wide, flat shape of this teapot makes it particularly suitable for high grade green teas such as gyokuro, kabusecha and high quality sencha. The shape allows the loose tea leaves to lie flat and open evenly aiding the extraction of umami flavours. The wide open top allows for you to see the leaves as they open and helps to clean the pot properly.

There is a built in ceramic mesh so there is no need for a separate tea stainer.

There is a "ceramesh" tea strainer integrated with the main body's so that you can pour tea without using a metal tea strainer. There is no metallic odor or taste, so you can enjoy the original taste of your tea.

    Perfect flavour tea

I bought this especially to appreciate Temomicha tea and it’s the perfect pot. After you have stewed the tea aim carefully as it has a surprisingly high pour point and you’ll overshoot your cup 😂. You can take a moment to observe the leaves and have a good sniff as the wide/flat presentation of the leaves will be pretty and give you a strong aroma before you take your first sip. My favourite teapot.

It is elegant and beautiful piece of art but a bit tricky to use, it took me some practice to figure out how not to spill the tea through the lid while trying to pour it from the spout- they are almost on the same level…that’s why four stars.
