About the farm:  A family-operated tea farm, factory, and shop established in 1970 in the small town of Nearai on the outskirts of Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. 2nd generation farmer Takayuki Tarui cultivates multiple cultivars on separate fields on the flatlands of Nearai and in the mountains nearby. Growing organically since his father started the farm, Takayuki certified his farm and factory in 2003. He seeks to provide clean tea, deep-steamed, for those who love green tea.

Tarui-san's daughter, Ai, is currently learning to cultivate tea from her father and will inherit the farm.

The farm has two lovey pet goats, Haiji-chan & Yuki-chan, who help with the up keep of the farm by grazing the unwanted weeds around the fields.

The Perfect Hojicha – Smooth, Nutty, and Exactly What I Was Looking For

I’ve been searching for the perfect Hojicha, and this one from Tarui Tea Garden is exactly what I was looking for. I originally fell in love with this type of tea after trying a Hojicha latte at a Korean café, and ever since, I’ve been on a mission to find that same smooth and comforting flavor.

I previously tried the dark roast version, but for my taste, this roasted one is much better. It’s softer, well-balanced, and has a delicate nuttiness that reminds me of toasted walnuts rather than the stronger, smokier notes of dark roast. The flavor is warm, mellow, and incredibly soothing perfect for a latte or even just on its own.

If you’re looking for an intense, bold roast, the dark version might be better for you. But if you prefer a gentler, smoother, and more refined Hojicha experience, this one is absolutely perfect. Highly recommended!

Thankyou so much for the detailed review. Delighted to hear you enjoyed this tea!
