Zenkouen Tea Garden: Genmaicha Powder
Zenkouen - Genmaicha Powder
Similarly to hojicha powder or matcha this powdered green tea with toasted rice is an easy way to make a delicious nutty genmaicha latte. Powdered genmaicha is also wonderful for creating cakes, cookies or any other recipes that take your fancy. If you love the nutty taste of genmaicha, you will definitely want to get creative with this one!
Zenkouen's powdered genmaicha is made by blending organic brown rice and tea from the spring harvest. Enjoy the scent of roasted rice along with the harmony of deep-steamed (fukamushi) tea.
Steeping Notes: The amount of tea needed will depend on what you are using it for. When making drinks we recommend mixing ( or whisking like you would matcha ) with a small amount of water to create a paste before adding the main volume of water or milk.

About the farmer:
Yoshimitsu Masuda spent the first part of his adult life working in a major farming cooperative where he learned firsthand about the danger of food additives and pesticides. Returning to the family tea farm in 1992 to learn tea making from his father and fellow tea farmers in Shimada, Shizuoka, he was deeply surprised at the number of pesticides used in tea farming.
Switching to organic farming was not an easy task; insects and disease plagued the first field he was given charge of, crop yield and leaf quality dropped, and he faced criticism from both family and other tea professionals. But he felt it was important to create a tea that was safe for his own family to drink first.
Today, built upon 25+ years of organic farming experience, Masuda-san produces tea that he is proud to call both safe and delicious and is passing his tea-making skills on to his children.
